絶縁型電源は、2つの回路を直接接続することなく1つの回路からもう1つの回路へと電力を伝送します。電力絶縁は、高電圧に晒されることから電子的負荷および機器の操作者を保護します。また、電力絶縁はグランドループも防ぎます。グランドループは寄生電流を発生させ、出力電圧安定化が乱れ、導電トレースのガルバニック腐食を招く可能性があります。絶縁型電源は、敏感な負荷の保護および機器の長期的信頼性が問題となる産業用、民生用、および通信アプリケーションで常に利用されます。

絶縁型電源は非絶縁型電源より複雑ですが、それでも小型スペースに納まって高効率で動作する必要があります。マキシムのRainierシリーズの絶縁型DC-DCおよびAC-DCコンバータおよびコントローラは、より少ない部品数でより小型のソリューションサイズを実現します。マキシムの特許取得済み技術によってフィードバック経路のフォトカプラが不要になり、通常必要になる基板スペースの30%を節約し、部品数を最大50%削減します。業界をリードする特長として、以下があります。
