Shanghai-based Calterah Semiconductor is a leading provider of 77/79GHz CMOS millimeter wave (mmWave) radar sensor ICs for automotive and industrial applications. You might find the company’s technology in applications such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), security screening and imaging, and smart homes.
One of the company’s newest products is its Alps 77/79GHz radar system-on-chip (SoC) and its antenna-in-package (AiP). Since these are complex chips, the company has created a reference design that streamlines the development process when using these two products. Calterah needed advanced power management ICs for the power supply that supports the total solution customers would design with help from the reference design. The reference design’s chip has wide input and output voltage range, a need for stable ripple, and ~1.1A of continuous output current to operate at 1.5V.
After a wide search, the Calterah team chose several Maxim ICs, including an automotive-grade power management IC (PMIC), MAX15027 1.425V-3.6V input, 1A low-dropout (LDO) regulators with BIAS input, and MAX20014 2.2MHz sync boost and dual step-down converters.
