Ambient and Infrared Proximity Sensor

Industry's Lowest Power Integrated Ambient Light and Proximity Sensor Provides Reliable Measurements

Product Details

MAX44000 combines a wide-dynamic range ambient light sensor with an integrated infrared proximity sensor, making it a perfect solution for touch-screen portable devices.

MAX44000 consumes as little as 11µA (time averaged) in ambient light sensing plus proximity sensing, including external IR LED current.

The on-chip ambient light sensor is capable of wide dynamic range 0.03 lux to 65,535 lux measurements. An on-chip IR proximity detector is matched with an integrated IR LED driver. All readings are available on an I²C communication bus. A programmable interrupt pin minimizes the need to poll the device for data, freeing up microcontroller resources, reducing system software overhead, and ultimately, reducing power consumption.

MAX44000 is designed to drive an external IR LED and can operate from a VDD of 1.7V to 3.6V. It consumes just 5µA operating current when only the ambient light sensor is enabled and 7µA when the proximity receiver and driver are enabled.

Description

The MAX44000 evaluation system (EV system) includes one MAX44000 evaluation kit (EV kit) and one MAX44000 daughter board. The EV kit is a fully assembled and tested PCB that evaluates the MAX44000 ambient light and proximity sensor. The EV system also includes Windows XP®-, Windows Vista®-, and Windows® 7-compatible software that provides a simple graphical user interface (GUI) for exercising the features of the device. The EV kit comes installed with a MAX44000GDT+ in a 6-pin OTDFN package with an exposed pad.

The daughter board is an external device-under-test module that also comes with a MAX44000GDT+ installed. The daughter board can be connected to and controlled by the EV kit. The user can also evaluate the device by connecting a user-supplied controller to the daughter board.

Description

Maxim Analog Essentials is a collection of peripheral modules which can plug directly into any FPGA/CPU expansion port which follows the Pmod™ standard established by Digilent, Inc. The collection includes modules containing a wide variety of commonly used analog and mixed signal functions. The modules are supported by software which includes FPGA configuration files for three popular FPGA platforms: Avnet LX-9, Digilent Nexys 3 and Avnet ZEDBoard, as well as example programs to exercise and demonstrate each module. While the example programs demonstrate the module’s functionality, they are well partitioned and documented allowing the core routines to be easily cut and pasted into your own programs. The combination of plug-in simplicity and easy software integration allows for quick migration from idea to working prototype.
