A charge pump (or Switched Capacitor Converter) IC converts, and optionally regulates, voltages using switching technology and capacitive-energy storage elements. Charge pumps offer high-efficiency and compact solutions with an inductor-less design. Unregulated charge pumps maintain a fixed integer ratio of input to output voltage and exhibit higher efficiency and compact solution size than buck or boost converters. Regulated charge pumps maintain a constant output with a varying voltage input. Maxim’s offerings include both unregulated and regulated output charge pumps that support a wide range of output power.
