A controller area network (CAN) is a two-wire, half-duplex, high-speed serial network typically used to provide communications between network nodes without loading down the system microcontroller. CAN is a layer 2 implementation per ISO 11898—it defines the protocol and the physical layer—and can detect and notify transmission errors caused by electromagnetic interference. CAN transceivers interface between the CAN protocol controller and the physical wires of the CAN bus lines.
Our high-speed and low-speed controller area network transceivers offer, integrated isolation, high ESD and high fault protection with value-added features above and beyond the requirements called out in the ISO 11898 standard. Our CAN ICs have integrated protection for more robust communication and handle the CAN bus connection with high ESD protection for a variety of applications. Low-voltage CAN transceivers are available to support applications that do not require stringent fault protection found in many industrial, communications, and instrumentation applications.
