Product Details

The MAX14850 is a six-channel digital isolator utilizing Maxim's proprietary process technology, whose monolithic design provides a compact and low-cost transfer of digital signals between circuits with different power domains. The technology enables low power consumption and stable high-temperature performance.

The four unidirectional channels are each capable of DC to 50Mbps, with two of the four channels passing data across the isolation barrier in each direction. The two bidirectional channels are open drain and each is capable of data rates from DC to 2Mbps.

Independent 3.0V to 5.5V supplies on each side of the isolator also make it suitable for use as a level translator. The MAX14850 can be used for isolating SPI busses, I2C busses, RS-232, RS-485/RS-422 busses, and general-purpose isolation. When used as a bus isolator, extra channels are available for power monitoring and reset signals.

The MAX14850 is available in a narrow body,16-pin SOIC (10mm x 4mm) package (for which an evaluation kit is available) and 16-pin QSOP (3.9mm x 4.94mm) package. The packages are specified over the -40°C to +125°C temperature range.

For improved performance, refer to the MAX14851. The MAX14851 has the same functionality and pin configurations, and can be used as a footprint and functional replacement for the MAX14850.

Description

The MAX14850PMB1 peripheral module utilizes the MAX14850 digital isolator to isolate another SPI- or UART-based module from any host system that utilizes Pmod™-compatible expansion ports configurable for either a UART or SPI interface. This peripheral module is first plugged into the host Pmod port. Another UART- or SPI-based module plugged into the 12-pin Pmod-compatible connector on this peripheral module is galvanically isolated from the host and referenced to a secondary power supply connected to this peripheral module.
The IC is a 6-channel digital isolator utilizing Maxim's proprietary process technology, whose monolithic design provides a compact and low-cost transfer of digital signals between circuits with different power domains. Of the six total channels, the four unidirectional channels are each capable of DC to 50Mbps, with two of the four channels passing data across the isolation barrier in each direction. The two bidirectional channels are open drain and each is capable of data rates from DC to 2Mbps.

Description

Maxim Analog Essentials is a collection of peripheral modules which can plug directly into any FPGA/CPU expansion port which follows the Pmod™ standard established by Digilent, Inc. The collection includes modules containing a wide variety of commonly used analog and mixed signal functions. The modules are supported by software which includes FPGA configuration files for three popular FPGA platforms: Avnet LX-9, Digilent Nexys 3 and Avnet ZEDBoard, as well as example programs to exercise and demonstrate each module. While the example programs demonstrate the module’s functionality, they are well partitioned and documented allowing the core routines to be easily cut and pasted into your own programs. The combination of plug-in simplicity and easy software integration allows for quick migration from idea to working prototype.

The MAX14850 evaluation kit (EV kit) is a fully assembled and tested circuit board that demonstrates the functionality of the MAX14850 6-channel digital isolator in a 16-pin narrow body SO surface-mount package. The EV kit features an on-board isolated power supply, an RS-485 transceiver, and an RS-232 transceiver. The EV kit is powered from a single 5V supply.

Description

The MAXSANTAFEEVSYS kit allows users to quickly demonstrate and evaluate the functionality of the MAXREFDES5 4-channel 16-bit, isolated analog front end (AFE) reference design without the need for a bench power supply, signal generator equipment, or Xilinx development kit. The reference design board connects to a PC through an included USB-to-SPI adapter that provides both power and data communication to the board. To test the AFE reference design, a USB-powered signal generator board utilizing one of Maxim’s digital-to-analog converters (DAC) is also included. A Windows®-based graphical user interface (GUI) communicates with the boards for generating various analog signal test patterns and simplified access to AFE measurement data.

The MAXREFDES5 reference design is a 4-channel analog front end (AFE) that accepts -10V to +10V, 0V to 10V, and 4–20mA current loop signals. The design integrates a 16-bit ADC with multirange input programmability (MAX1301) plus low-noise, high-impedance analog buffers (MAX9632) on two of the input channels and an ultra-high precision 4.096V voltage reference (MAX6126) to achieve maximum performance from the 16-bit system. A 600VRMS digital isolator (MAX14850) and 3W transformer driver (MAX256) provide the necessary isolated data and power connections to the host system. LDO regulators (MAX1659) provide regulated +12V, -12V, and 5V power rails to the analog front end.
