OneWireViewer Java Web Start

The OneWireViewer can be installed as a Java™ Web Start program on operating systems supported by Java.

Quick Install Guide

  1. Obtain the correct hardware. For platforms other than Windows®, an RS-232 1-Wire® adapter is the only adapter currently supported by the Java Web Start OneWireViewer. Please check the Open-Source Drivers section below for the appropriate cross-platform serial libraries for your operating system.
  2. Install the latest version of Java.
  3. Launch the OneWireViewer by clicking the button shown below.
  4. Read the OneWireViewer User's Guide.
  5. If the need or desire to run the OneWireViewer without an internet connection arises, see the off-line instructions for how to set this up.

Open-Source Drivers

A software driver is required to give Java access to the 1-Wire serial adapter mentioned above. For non-Win32 platforms with serial ports, the open-source RXTX serial-communications API fulfills this requirement for the OneWireViewer. See the table below. If your platform is not listed, please look for (or compile from source) a version for your platform at www.rxtx.org. Install RXTX by simply copying rxtxSerial.dll into your /bin folder, and copying RXTXcomm.jar into your /lib/ext folder.
RXTX for Supported Platforms
Windows x86 (ZIP)
Linux (ZIP)

Troubleshooting

If clicking on the OneWireViewer JNLP file fails to start the application, click on the URL and save the file to your desktop. Then double-click on the file to launch the program.

The OneWireViewer can also be run from the Java Control Panel Applet, specifically by clicking on the "View" button next to the "Temporary Internet Files" section of the "General" tab. This will bring up the Java Cache Viewer from which you can run the OneWireViewer.

Additionally, the OneWireViewer application has a built-in message log, which will display any 'normal' exceptions like those generated by intermediate contact or some lack of 1-Wire adapter features. This message log is available under View, then Message Log after you start the OneWireViewer.
