MEMS-Based Real-Time Clocks
Real-time clock (RTC) ICs with MEMS oscillators offer several advantages over RTC ICs that use crystal-based oscillators. MEMS oscillators are temperature-compensated for high accuracy; they suffer no frequency shifts during board manufacturing and show no aging effects. MEMS oscillators provide improved tolerance to shock and vibration. Also, MEMS-based RTCs offer a much smaller design footprint due to the replacement of a large crystal with a very small MEMS.
