I²C (pronounced "I-squared-C" and typeset as I²C but often typed as I2C) is short for "inter-IC bus." I²C is a two-wire, low-speed, serial data connection IC bus used to run signals between integrated circuits, generally on the same board.
SMBus™ is electrically similar—see Comparing the I²C Bus to the SMBus.
