Choose the Right Ultra-Thin DC-DC Converter for a Compact PCMCIA Card

Abstract: Shrinking electronic circuits place demands on power supplies to keep pace. The PCMCIA-card formats force designers to consider converter topologies and keep a watchful eye for components that meet ultra-thin design requirements. This tutorial discusses converter designs for PMICIA cards. For ultra-thin designs, the article recommends linear regulators, charge pumps and inductor-based switching regulators. Advantages of weaknesses of several converter topologies are analyzed.
