Temperature Compensation using Bias and Modulation Current with PHY1078

Abstract: This application note discusses the temperature-sensing function of the Phyworks PHY1078, a burst-mode laser driver and limiting amplifier for use within fiber optic modules for FTTx applications. The document also shows the relationship between bias and modulation-DAC values and the actual currents that are measured at the BIAS and LASER outputs. With this article, the user will be able to determine the correct look-up table (LUT) values for both bias and modulation current over temperature, based on known laser characteristics.
