在锂离子(Li+)电池、碱性电池、NiMH电池、铅酸电池供电的系统中,通常使用升压型(boost)、降压型(buck)或升压/降压型开关稳压器,把电池电压有效转换成系统所需的稳压源。电池配置(单节或多节)由设计人员确定,多节配置包含串联、并联或组合联接。根据电池配置和设计要求的输入电压范围选择开关稳压器的类型。

要求多种电源轨的纽扣电池供电应用将得益于PMIC (电源管理IC)。这些多功能IC通常具有升压/降压型稳压器、升压稳压器和低压差(LDO)稳压器输出。

以下是Maxm针对不同电池配置推荐的开关稳压器和PMIC。

单节电池供电应用

采用单节Li+电池供电的设备可以通过升压型/降压型转换器生成稳定的电压轨。单节Li+电池的输出范围通常为2.7V至4.2V。如果要求的电压轨在此范围之内(例如3.3V),那么升压型/降压型转换器一般能够提供最佳方案。如果要求的电压轨高出该范围(例如5V),那么升压型转换器可提供最佳方案。

由单节Li+电池供电的多电源轨应用将得益于集成PMIC,实现高转换效率和空间节省。

采用单节碱性电池或NiMH电池供电的设备通常使用一个或多个升压(boost)稳压器,输出电压范围在0.8V至1.8V之间的标准AA型电池和小型纽扣电池适用于上述情况。

多节电池供电应用

大功率电池应用中通常需要将电池并联或串联,以提供较高的总电能。此类电池配置的输出电压通常高于应用要求的上限,因而需使用降压(buck)稳压器将较高的可变输入电压转换成降低的稳态输出电压。
