MAXIM'S 10-/12-BIT DATA-ACQUISITION SYSTEMS WITH LOCAL/REMOTE TEMPERATURE SENSING ELIMINATE NEED FOR PROCESSOR INTERVENTION
SUNNYVALE, CA-May 7, 2003-Maxim Integrated (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX1253/MAX1254 and the MAX1153/MAX1154. These 8-channel, 10- and 12-bit ADCs with internal temperature sensor and VDD monitoring interface directly to SPI, QSPI, and MICROWIRE devices without external logic. These devices offer 94ksps, ±1LSB INL, and ±1LSB DNL with no missing codes, all in a small 16-pin TSSOP package.
When these ADCs are in temperature-sensing mode, internal bias currents pass through external diode-connected transistors for ±1°C accurate temperature measurements. They can also be configured for single-ended or differential remote temperature sensors with no additional circuitry. The full-scale analog input voltage range is determined by an internal reference at 2.048V for the 3V parts and 4.096V for the 5V parts. An external reference is used in the 1V to VDD range. Software-selectable conversion rates help optimize power consumption.
These data-acquisition systems have an internal state machine that cycles through temperature and voltage measurements, generating an alarm condition and interrupt when measurements fall outside the user-programmed threshold. Programmable on-chip digital averaging and consecutive fault counters reduce the occurrence of false alarms in noisy environments. Autonomous input monitoring and alarming make the MAX1153/MAX1253 and MAX1154/MAX1254 ideal for system monitoring applications while minimizing host processor overhead.
The MAX1153/MAX1253 operate with a 2.7V to 3.6V single supply, while the MAX1154/MAX1254 operate with a 4.75V to 5.25V single supply. These devices consume only 2.2mA when monitoring eight input voltages, on-chip temperature, and VDD with internal reference at 2ksps per channel. They consume only 2µA in shutdown mode.
The MAX1153/MAX1253 and MAX1154/MAX1254 are available in a 16-pin TSSOP package in the extended (-40°C to +85°C) temperature range. Prices start at $3.50 (1000-up, FOB USA).
